Everything You Need to Know About Cicaplast B5 Serum

There’s a handful of products that sit in the beauty hall of fame—bestsellers that people use and love year after year and always top those cult lists. La Roche-Posay Cicaplast Baume B5 is one of them. The original Cicaplast moisturizer is a soothing multi-purpose balm for the face and body that’s safe to use on babies, children and adults. It’s essentially a do-it-all cream that helps with a long list of skin concerns, from dryness to itching to irritation. In big beauty news, the iconic Cicaplast Baume B5 has a new member of its family. Introducing Cicaplast B5 Serum, a brand-new formula that works to help repair damaged skin. Read on for a breakdown of everything you need to know about La Roche-Posay Cicaplast B5 Serum.

What is the Cicaplast range?

A multi-tasking collection that’s formulated to protect the skin barrier and provide a hefty dose of hydration, La Roche-Posay Cicaplast products have a long list of benefits for the skin. Safe for all skin types, including sensitive, the Cicaplast range has three products that have been cult faves for years. The original Cicaplast Baume B5 (which comes in two sizes, 40 ml and 100 ml, which is a lighter-weight version of the cream, and Cicaplast Lèvres, a soothing and protective balm for dry, chapped lips. The latest addition to the family is La Roche-Posay Cicaplast B5 Serum, and the buzz around it is already building. (But more on that later.)

What does Cicaplast do?

The main purpose behind Cicaplast is to soothe and repair the skin, whether it’s dry or suffering from irritation or it’s post-procedure. Its benefits are vast, as Cicaplast can be used on babies as young as four months old for diaper rash or adults of any age for calming minor skin irritations and more. The collection targets different types of skin concerns—with the heavier-duty Cicaplast Baume B5, the lightweight Gel B5 and the nourishing lip balm, there’s something for everyone. The formulas are non-greasy and can be used on the face and body to comfort dry, parched skin.

What is the new Cicaplast B5 Serum?

Repairing. Soothing. Hydrating. Three words that perfectly describe the new La Roche-Posay Cicaplast B5 Serum. From its first application, it works to help repair a compromised, fragile complexion and improve skin quality. With its unique patent-pending bandage texture, this serum forms a shield on the skin to defend against daily aggressors such as extreme climate, harsh temperatures and pollution. Formulated with a list of skin-loving ingredients like vitamin B5, panthenol, hyaluronic acid, soothing thermal spring water and glycerine, it leaves skin feeling repaired, hydrated and more refined. Even after one day of application, there is a proven decrease in transepidermal water loss (TEWL) and an improvement in the quality of the skin barrier. So much so that there’s a 47% decrease in TEWL after one hour and a 44% decrease after six hours. Impressive, right?

Who is the Cicaplast B5 Serum best suited for?

You’re a prime candidate for using La Roche-Posay Cicaplast B5 Serum if your skin is dry, dehydrated or irritated and prone to dullness. In other words, fragilized skin. But this serum really can be used on any skin type. Many people suffer from a weakened skin barrier, including oily skin types who have been too aggressive with blemish-busting products or those with normal skin who recently had a laser treatment that’s healing post-procedure. The formula is hypoallergenic, fragrance-free, non-comedogenic and oil-free and has been tested on sensitive skin under dermatological control, which means it’s ultra-gentle and won’t cause redness or irritate reactive skin.

What are the key ingredients of the serum?

Just like the Cicaplast moisturizer, the new La Roche-Posay Cicaplast B5 Serum’s ingredient list is a skin-boosting dream team that packs a big, soothing punch. The standout ingredients include:

10% vitamin B5

This well-known vitamin (also known as panthenol) works to help stimulate the skin’s healing abilities. It’s also an anti-inflammatory, which means it inhibits the signal of inflammatory factors in the skin, thereby relieving discomfort.

1% aqua posae filiformis

Found in La-Roche-Posay’s thermal water, this extract stimulates cell cohesion and accelerates epidermal repair, building a stronger barrier and rebalancing the skin’s microbiome.

1% HEPES

An ultra-gentle exfoliant, HEPES helps to refine skin texture by ridding the skin of dead cells for a more even complexion.

Hyaluronic acid

Also a humectant, hyaluronic acid (or HA, as it’s often called) is naturally produced by the body and provides hydration in addition to giving the skin a plump and more supple appearance.

Glycerine

Another humectant, glycerine helps retain moisture and softens the skin.

How do I use the new Cicaplast B5 Serum?

La Roche-Posay Cicaplast B5 Serum is simple to incorporate into a skincare routine. It can be used in the morning and/or evening and can easily be paired with other products. Apply one or two drops to the face and neck after cleansing, and allow for the serum to penetrate the skin for about 60 seconds before moving on to your next step. This helps the formula work its magic. Follow up with your daily moisturizer or night cream (may we suggest La Roche-Posay Cicaplast Baume B5. For a.m. routines, apply sunscreen as your very last step to protect your skin from UV damage.
