Julia, one of Dermablend’s loyal users, tells us how and why she chooses to use Dermablend.

She was born with a dark purple birthmark on her face. When she was young, she used to cover it with her bangs. A few years later, the birthmark got darker and spread across her face. The doctors didn’t know what it was. It was only when she shared her story on social media that she discovered that it was called nevus of Ota, which is hyperpigmentation of the skin.

At 18 years old, she was happy to discover Dermablend because she never thought she would find a makeup that would make her skin look even. She finally felt like herself with Dermablend. It helped her build the confidence she needed to not care what other people think of her. Dermablend gives her the option to wear makeup if she wants to. Now her reflection in the mirror is herself, with or without foundation.

It wasn’t that long after Julie shared her birthmark on social media that another girl with the same birthmark reached out to her. The girl told Julia that it was her video that gave her the confidence to be herself and stop hiding her birthmark.

Now Julie doesn’t need to wear makeup to feel good about herself and feel comfortable. One time, she wasn’t wearing any makeup and her brother-in-law saw her birthmark for the first time. She showed it to him because she didn’t feel like she had to cover it up anymore. It has been a journey to accept her birthmark, and although makeup doesn't make her who she is, it helps give her a choice of whether or not she wants her birthmark to show.
