Stay out of the kitchen and stay away from your toothpaste! Common myths about acne treatment revolve around the use of toothpaste on pimples to get rid of acne overnight. The reason of this misconception is that toothpaste used to have an antibacterial component and it is minty so it feels like it's medicated. Using toothpaste on your pimples does not help your acne and dries out your skin. To get rid of acne fast, use an acne treatment that contains benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid, as these can actually get the root cause of the acne. Acne breakouts

When an acne breakout occurs, people naturally search for a quick solution to clear their skin. For years, toothpaste, rubbing alcohol, vinegar and other acidic foods have been thought of as practical an inexpensive spot treatment to dry up pimples, with the hopes of quickly reducing swelling and getting rid of the pimples overnight. This is because many of these items contain alcohol or baking powder which are often associated with a drying effect, too often than not thought to have a miracle healing effect on pimples. However, applying these items to your acne will actually aggravate your skin’s condition.

These home remedies are not recommended as an optimal acne treatment. If sudden breakouts occur regularly, consider starting a daily skincare routine to help prevent acne in the future. It is preferable to use acne treatments that help to decrease sebum production, kill acne bacteria, help normalize skin shedding and reduce inflammation. With the right daily skin routine, acne can not only heal over time, but can also be prevented.

It is not recommended to turn to home remedies to get rid of acne overnight. Alternatively, adopting the proper daily skin care routine can help you get to the root of the problem quickly. We recommend that you determine the optimal skin routine for your acne-prone skin so that you can go to bed with a clear mind knowing you’ve done everything you can to treat your acne and not damage your skin!

Day and night acne management

Step 1: Cleanse your face morning and night

+

If you feel a pimple coming along, it’s likely already been there for about 6 weeks. To speed the pimple along, we recommend to start your daily skincare routine with a purifying gel cleanser to remove impurities that thrive in oily conditions. Start with Effaclar Purifying Foaming Gel to purify the skin and eliminate impurities and sebum.

Step 2: Minimize the appearance of enlarged pores

+

Help reduce pore size and fight against blockage, with a sebum-regulating and purifying micro-exfoliator. Effaclar Astringent Micro-Exfoliating Lotion which contains micro-exfloating LHA helps unclog and tighten enlarged pores.

Step 3: Use a Global Acne Treatment

+

Certain spot treatments do exist on the market and are a great alternative to the toothpaste method, for example. However, if you are at risk of acne, a global acne treatment which is applied to the face as a whole and not only to an isolated spot will allow you to address your overall skin condition and potentially prevent future acne occurrence. Effaclar Duo (+) Global Action Acne Care is a great example and helps to reduces the number of acne pimples, prevent reoccurence, helps skin to heal and provides 24h hydration. For more severe acne, it is recommended that you get a diagnosis from a board-certified dermatologist.

Step 4: Use Sun Protection

+

Make sure to finish your morning routine with a sun protection that offers a minimum SPF30.
