ANTHELIOS XL MELT-IN CREAM FOR FACE & BODY is rated 3.3 out of 5 by 58.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from LOVE THIS I love this product. I have dry, sensitive skin, and this product did not bother me at all. It went on smooth and melted perfectly, I didn't need more than maybe 2 pea-sized amounts. No pilling! I don't know why the other reviewers seem to have pilling, but like mineral sunscreens I've used in the past, I let my base creams sink into my skin first (maybe 10 minutes, usually while I get dressed) before applying sunscreen. I've also found that using micellar water to cleanse can cause issues with a lot of creams absorbing if they are put on before the micellar water dries. Could this be why it pills for some people?? Regardless, this will be my new facial sunscreen for this summer. It did make my face a bit more pale the normal and took a good 10 minutes to fully melt into my skin. But my goodness, my skin looked even and soft with just the right amount of glow. I didn't need any foundation, just a little blush/bronzer to brighten my face a bit. I haven't tested this with foundation because I don't need to use it with this, which is good because I have to reapply every 3 hours or so because I burn easily. I'm fair with a lot of freckles and some 40-year-old fine lines. I'm so happy with this product, most sunscreens irritate my sensitive skin.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Doesn't burn but pills really badly I really wanted to love this sunscreen because of the variety of filters that are used, and also because it doesn’t burn my eyes at all. The first time I put it on, I was already wearing sunscreen and it pilled. I’ve since tried it on clean, dried, naked skin fresh out of the shower with no luck. As I work it into the skin, it will start to curdle and clump very noticeably. I haven't even tried to put make up on over this sunscreen because I'm worried it will just look awful.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from streaky and easy to pill I wanted to love this so bad because of the mexoryl technology with tinosorb s but it is extremely cosmetically inelegant. I had fitz Patrick type 3 skin with olive undertones and it leaves a grey looking cast on me, the worse part is the more you attempt to blend in the sunscreen, the more it pills and becomes streaky. This is extremely frustrating if you had put on your expensive serums and now have to wash off your entire face because of how terrible this sat on your skin. Given I only apply vit c, moisturizer and spf in the morning, I tried it without moisturizer and I still had product pilling up like little eraser bits. Such a disappointment because the filters in here are phenomenal. Save your money on this and buy a Japanese/Korean sunscreen that also has superior UVA filters and is by far more cosmetically elegant.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I use this everyday! I used to HATE this sunscreen because it would always pill on my face and body. I read somewhere that if you rub it in properly, that won’t happen. Once I started taking the time to rub it in properly, I haven’t experienced pilling at all! I love the feeling of this sunscreen because it doesn’t feel heavy and greasy like other ones. Highly recommend, and make sure you rub it in well!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Lot of white cast I bought this product from Shoppers Drug Mart and I was very excited to try it. When I applied this sunscreen, the whole cream got sticked on my face for about an hour, having a lot of white cast. Usually taken an hour to melt I guess

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Favourite sunscreen This is my go to, daily moisturizer. I have sensetive skin and these products never irritate my skin. This will be my regular moisturizer from now on

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Got a sample, now I'm hooked! I actually normally use the LRP tinted spf 50 face fluid because I wanted mineral/physical only uv filters. I've been religiously using sunscreen for the past month and a half, and have since started using RetinA (tretinoin). Oddly, the tinted fluid actually ends up making me more flaky (irritation from retinA), but this actually melts into my skin, moisturizes it and keep everything looking normal and not flaky! LOVE. Did I mention it makes my skin so much happier, not irritated, and smooth??

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great sunscreen for the body I must say this product has excellent filters for UVA protection - one of the best combinations in the canadian market. UVA is immunosuppressive, causes premature aging, contributes to persistent hyperpigmentation, and exacerbates many skin diseases. The SPF rating reflects only the protection against UVB, which represents 5% of the UV dose we are exposed to (the rest is UVA) - therefore not every SPF 50 product offers the same level of UVA protection. Although La Roche-Posay Canada does not divulge the PPD of their sunscreens, I just wanted to give some context to the high level of UVA protection of this product in hopes that people that are not familiar with this find it helpful: The SPF 60 Lotion in Canada has a very similar composition (inactive ingredients) and filters to this Melt In Cream in terms of UVA2 and UVA1 protection: 7% Octocrylene (UVB+UVA2), 4% Avobenzone (UVA2+UVA1), 0,5% Mexoryl SX (UVB+UVA2+UVA1), and 2,5% Mexoryl XL (UVB+UVA2+UVA1), and already has the UVA seal of protection. This seal (circle with UVA inside) is also used in europe, and indicates that the product's UVA protection is at least 1/3 of the SPF value. Therefore, the SPF 60 Lotion already has a UVA protection factor of at least 20. (The others are strictly UVB filters so I am not including them in this discussion) In addition to those filters, the Melt In Cream includes even more Mexoryl XL (3%), plus 2,5% titanium dioxide, and 5% bemotrizinol (Tinosorb S). Titanium dioxide mainly offers UVB/UVA2 protection, but it does protect against UVA1 to a certain degree. However, Tinosorb S is a broad-spectrum filter that offers incredibly stable and effective UVB, UVA2, and UVA1 protection. It has a very high molar extinction coefficient, which means it is very effective even at low concentrations - and this product has a very high concentration (5%). I have used the LRP Sun Intolerance SPF 50+ (UVA rating 39) from the UK market, and the composition is very similar. Therefore, I can only postulate that the UVA protection offered by the Melt In Cream is significantly higher than 20 - but I cannot know the exact PPD rating (UVA protection factor). The bemotrizinol, Mexoryl SX, Mexoryl XL, and octocrylene stabilise the avobenzone very effectively, so this product offers very reliable/stable UVA coverage. I must say that this product can pill on the face, and does give a slight flash-type cast on the face due to the titanium dioxide, but it works wonderfully well on the body, and this is how I use it. It is also water-resistant, which means it offers longer-lasting UV protection - I really enjoy using this product on the body while working out, and I do not find that it pills when used this way. It is a great value because it offers incredibly high UVA protection, and is 100 mL. The other La Roche-Posay product that offers incredibly high UVA protection is the new formulation of the Ultra Light SPF 50+ (I wrote about it, as well). I am very pleased La Roche-Posay started formulating with Tinosorb S in the canadian sunscreens, because I no longer need to buy the european versions (that have been using Tinosorb S, Uvinul T 150, etc. for years). The only issue with the Melt In Cream, as I have mentioned, is the pilling on the face, but I think LRP could potentially fix that by including some more emollients like C12-15 alkyl benzoate in this formulation.
